About
74 were appointed to design the amenity spaces for a new development of 261 residential Build to Rent apartments named Enigma Square, for Grainger plc, the UK’s largest residential landlord.

The design was inspired by the city’s famous planning and grid systems. Inspiration also came from the development’s name, Enigma Square. A reference to nearby Bletchley Park, the principal centre of allied code-breaking during the Second World War, and where British codebreakers were able to crack the German Enigma code.

Subtle references are made to this in details such as the embossed dots and dashes on the reception desk tiles, which are a nod to morse code, which was used to transmit the messages encrypted by the Enigma machine.

“74 have created a legacy with Enigma Square. All of the amenity spaces are very inclusive with areas to get away from it all. They designed through the lens of the developer, the operator, the asset managers and most importantly the residents to create outstanding amenities where every inch of the spaces are used.”

— Richard Demby, Development Manager, Grainger plc
