We were asked to develop proposals for the sensitive
redevelopment of the estate for residential use by utilising
the quality existing buildings and removing the low quality
industrial elements. We worked closely with the client and
local authority planning and conservation teams, within the
restrictions of the Greenbelt policy to conceive a proposal
which sits harmoniously within its rural context.
The simple adaptation of one and two structures
has created opportunity for three and four bedroom
properties set around a central communal courtyard
area with a private, gated parking. We have worked
with the existing structure and fabric of the buildings
with contemporary insertions, yet retaining their rural
aesthetic and character.
The reorganisation of the site has enabled us
to create a new stand alone house within substantial
gardens. The property has been conceived within a simple
barn-like structure with a contemporary, yet rural aesthetic.
The material palette is restricted to timber and glass with
a veiled front facade offering slight glimpses into the building
from the road, whilst the rear of the property is almost
completely transparent offering panoramic views over
open fields whilst enjoying a south-west aspect.
