Case Study

Galbraiths Shipbrokers

We were selected ahead of some recognised London
design practices to develop proposals for an owner occupiers
new headquarters on Borough High Street, London.

We developed an in-depth knowledge of how their
business functioned and through this understanding were
able to suggest ways in which to improve communication,
performance and ultimately business results through better
utilisation of space, better adjacencies, more communal
and flexible spaces and an emphasis on wellbeing
in the workplace.

As a 100 year old plus business, Galbraiths wanted to respect
the past but were determined to look towards the future and present
themselves as a forward facing company. It was out with the leather
Chesterfields, (one of which gratefully ended up in our studio) out with
the ships bell, models of tankers in glass cases and out with the brass
portholes. In came a sweeping new aesthetic based on solid
Scandinavian design principles which appealed to two
of the Directors from Sweden and Norway.
We created a series of bespoke design solutions for
a more agile workforce, with innovative sit / stand desks,
minimal desk storage, communal locker areas, an internal
bar and coffee shop looking out on a considerable new external
terrace area. We designed a workplace environment with a simple
palette using neutral tones and natural materials that evoked
a sense of calm and wellbeing.
